ÇAKÜ Landscape Architecture Students Reach Finals in 'PMOGenç' Competition

Çankırı Karatekin University's (ÇAKÜ) Department of Landscape Architecture students havehave qualified for the finals of the 5th PMOGenç Design and Application Student Competition,organized in cooperation with the TMMOB Chamber of Landscape Architects and Karma Fuarcılık as part of the PSB Anatolia Fair. In the final stage, the students will put their landscape designs into practice on a 25-square-metre plot, gaining hands-on field experience.

The competition is designed to sharpen landscape architecture students' design and application skills, helping them put the theoretical knowledge gained during their studies into practice. This year's final round will take place from 8-12 September 2026 on the Kırkpınar Coast in Sapanca, Sakarya.

The ÇAKÜ team is preparing for the competition under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgür Burhan Timur of the Department of Landscape Techniques. As finalists, the students will represent Çankırı Karatekin University in the application stage, bringing their design to life in front of the jury and fellow participants.

Prof. Dr. Umut Pekin Timur, Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture, called the students' place in the finals a significant achievement for the department, noting that applied competitions like this one play an important role in students' professional development.

Landscape architecture education, he said, isn't just about theory and design, it's about experiencing the full process from concept to construction. "We place great importance on our students having a complete experience, from the design process through to application," Timur said. "The PMOGenç Competition gives them a genuine opportunity to test and build on what they've learned in a real field setting."

Timur added that having students represent the university in a national competition is a source of real pride for the department. "I congratulate our finalist students and their advisor, and I wish them every success in the application stage," he said. "Competitions like this matter to us because of what they offer students — the chance to grow in design and application, build professional confidence, and gain real experience working as a team."

Bringing Designs to Life in the Field

A defining feature of the competition is its application stage, where students will build their landscape designs at full scale on a 25-square-metre plot assigned to them — putting the theoretical and technical knowledge from their studies to the test in a real-world setting.

Beyond design work alone, the competition's format gives students a complete, hands-on look at what it takes to bring a design from paper to the field — building experience in design, planning, implementation, teamwork, time management, and site organization along the way.
